The Picture of the Day (or POTD) can be won by any image on the site at any time, regardless as to how long it might have been laying around. The system chooses the image it feels has enough interest from the users to be selected above all of the other images on the site. No humans are directly involved in the selection of the image, so bribes won't do you any good :-)

    People have asked who picks the potd, and the answer is you do! The system looks at every photo on the site and based on interest in that image, it is ranked. No matter if you are active, inactive, have 600 photos or one, you can still win. If you see an image you like consider leaving a comment or marking at as a favorite, as you are in effect casting a vote. Critiques do not count, so an image you feel needs a comment but is more critical, this would be your tool of choice. Don't use a critique for praise, as you are not helping it win the potd. Note that comments are not the only criteria, and comments on your own images do not count.

    Thanks for the info here on the potd...being new on this site...I still have lots to learn and this I did not know!I have been getting some critiques by one individual so I just eliminate the photo..oops!...Don't understand a lot of this stuff on here yet but 'this' has been helpful...Thanks!
